Personality:

Strict, hardworking, assertive, and perfectionism. These are just some of the words that come to mind when you are first introduced to Dia Kurosawa. She comes from a family who prides themselves in being traditional, and so the fact that this well-mannered third year is the student council’s president is probably not much of a surprise.

These traits are also what makes Dia the opposing force at the beginning of the Sunshine! Series. Her continuous rejections of a School Idol club are assumed to be due to the fact that Chika was never able to bring her anything with structure. It is even suggested that because of her upbringing, she despised even the thought of ever allowing school idols.

The statement “there are two sides to every coin” is very applicable to Dia. It wasn’t that she hated School Idols, no! In fact, Dia is an information bank when it comes to idols. Her knowledge exceeds what would be considered a normal fan’s. Her infatuation with school idols is centered on “µ's" (pronounced "Muse"), a group of nine girls from Tokyo who became school idols and saved their school from being shut down. One example of her extensive knowledge is early in the first season when Dia absolutely schools Chika on the obscure knowledge of "Muse" after she mistakenly calls them "U's". The questions ranged anything from what the first song they sang together was, all the way to which four members skipped the beginning of "Bokura wa Ima no Naka de" during the second Love Live finals. Things this obscure, Dia considers "basic knowledge"— proving her knowledge of School Idols to be pretty impressive. Behind Dia’s seemingly cold personality lies a girl who has an overabundance of passion and energy for the things that she loves.

Her own experiences with being a school idol are the real reason behind Dia’s constant rejections. Two years prior to Season 1 of the anime, Dia and her childhood friends, Kanan and Mari, created a school idol group. They became popular enough to be invited to an event in Tokyo with an opportunity to sing in front of a crowd, and choked. At least, that was what was initially believed. This is where Dia shows her selfless nature. The real reason behind the original split up was not that Kanan and Dia couldn’t sing, but that they were more concerned for Mari, who had continuously given up opportunities to do something greater with her life and who would have performed with an injury that day. Dia following this decision to not sing shows that she willing and able to give up the things that she loves for the betterment of those that she considers the closest to her.

Dia's relationship with her younger sister Ruby is where we see a lot of her caring nature. While she can be tough on Ruby, she also shows that she can take the backseat to her younger sister making decisions. While Dia was initially against Ruby becoming a school idol she realizes that she has to take a step back and let Ruby decide for herself, even going so far as to telling Ruby that she shouldn’t be concerned with what she thinks. In season two, Dia and Ruby’s relationship is really shown to be a loving one. It's very apparent that Dia is proud of Ruby, and proud to be her sister.

Another example of her caring nature would be when Aquors (then 6) came back from their crushing defeat in a Tokyo competition. Dia had every chance to make this an “I told you so” moment, but instead she gives them empathy and advice as well as praise on a job well done.

Moving forward, and delving deeper we find out in Season 2 that Dia has her own set of insecurities. Namely that she doesn’t feel as close to the other members of Aquors as Kanan and Mari are. Her reasoning is that they use “-chan” for them and “-san” for her. She spends an entire episode trying to change the very core of who she is just to gain the same sort of relationship with them. Comically enough, most of these things just end up concerning her friends and results in them having to tell her that they love “Dia-san” just the way she is!

In conclusion, over two seasons of Sunshine, Dia lets go of her past regrets and becomes wholeheartedly herself again. She retains her mature outlook on things, and of course she is still outrageously strict! But the Dia who once opposed Aquors became the Dia that would do absolutely anything for them. Her energy, spirit, and her heaps of tough love are what make Dia an integral part of the group “Aquors” up until their very last performance.



Abilities: Singing and dancing! Otherwise, Dia is a pretty normal high school girl.

Alignment: Peromei is the best fit for Dia! Season 2 brings forth both of this emotions. Despair over not being able to save their school in the end, and Hope when they have the chance to allow their school's name to live on by winning the Love Live.

Other: Dia is skilled at playing the yamatogoto, she is also proficient in Kitsuke— which is the art of wearing Kimono. Dia is also the one who passed down the name "Aquors" to Chika's group in the beginning. She wrote it in the sand and ran away before they could find her.
